For this trimester I will be furthering my research on 2D animation. My skill set for 2D animation has improved from Studio 2.

Last trimester I said I would use OpenToonz for my primary program to animate in. But there are limitations to this program such as importing images and videos into a project file won’t work. I can establish key poses and timing in the program but I will be using Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai as my main programs for animation so then I can translate my art style better in my animations.

Trimester goals

My goals for this trimester would be to have one polished animation, similar to the animations below, using one of my anthropomorphic characters.

Another animation I would like to do would be a dance sequence, specifically the one below from the time codes 0:55 – 1:07. That is the main dance for the chorus of the song. I will only be animating the keyframes and extremes using a basic skeleton form but over the holidays I will be polishing it using one of my original characters.

Ultimate Goal

My goal would be to further hone my skill of 2D animation to create either a trailer or short film for my final project. I’m hoping to create something like the example below with this amount of polish and movement.

The resources I’ll be planning on using will be; the Animator’s Survival Kit, I’ll actually be reading through it for once instead of using it as a paperweight, as well as other websites for specific techniques.
